While the majority of hospice care referrals are cancer related, hospice is by no means exclusively for cancer patients. People with ALS, kidney disease and Alzheimer's disease, for example, can also benefit greatly from hospice care.

Patients with any of the following illnesses may be appropriate for a hospice care or palliative care, care in a nursing homes or at an assisted living facilities once eligibility criteria are met:

• Metastatic Malignancies
• Heart Disease
• Kidney Disease
• Liver Disease
• Lung Disease
• Stroke and/or Coma
• AIDS
• Neurological Diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Dementia, etc.)
• Failure of Multiple Organ Systems
• Failure to Thrive
• Debility and Decline
